"Hunting at Savernake Forest, Wiltshire"
Robert Hugh Buxton was a sporting, portrait and landscape painter and woodcarver. He studied at Herkomer’s School and The Slade School of Art. He exhibited nineteen times at The Royal Academy in London, twice at The Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour, three times at The Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool, The Royal Society of Oil Painters, The Bruton Gallery, The Fine Art Society and Manchester City Art Gallery. He lived at Wimbledon Common from 1894 and later in London from 1904.
This example shows his exquisite drawing mastery, careful subtle use of the medium of watercolour and a great sense of composition and understanding of his subject.
