“The Château de Saint-Fargeau, France” Watercolour
I have been given a few pages of amusing text to go with this picture, which was copied directly from John’s accounts of his fond memories of his travels in France a decade or so ago. This text pertains to this picture’s “raison d’être”. I have tried to coerce John into working these notes into solid book form for publishing, as the few examples I’ve seen make excellent and interesting reading.
In my opinion, this lovely portrayal of a typically French Château is one of John’s best works. The Château is nicely framed against the strong shadows and cool colours of overhead and nearby foliage, these and the patchy sunlight over parched grass, all leading the eye nicely into the warmer tones of the subject matter in the distance.
This Château lies about 150 kilometres south of Paris.
