Edouard Leslie Badham studied at Clapham School of Art, South Kensington and The Slade. He became a member of The Royal Society of British Artists in 1899, The Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour in 1937 and the Royal Society of Oil Painters in 1940. He was recorded as living in London in 1896, moved to St. Leonards on Sea, East Sussex in 1905 and later to Hastings in 1930. He died in 1944.

He exhibited an enormous body of work: GOU 3, L 1, M 2, NEA 1 RA 38, RBA 159, RCA 1, RHA 34, RI 23, ROI 5, RSA 1.

This picture has an inscription to the reverse dedicating the work to a tutor, for whom he felt great admiration and gratitude.
