Urquhart Castle on Loch Ness.
Oil on canvas 12” x 10” signed and dated 1886.
William Boswell Currie was born in Edinburgh circa 1823 and died in 1894.
William painted many fine landscapes and seascapes of Scotland and Ireland during a lifetime stricken with illness and poverty in which he always struggled to make any sort of a living and raise a large family. Many of his best pictures were exhibited at The Royal Scottish Academy.
This view of Loch Ness is an excellent example of his work and retains its original frame. This frame is of unusually fine quality, suggesting the picture might have gone to a wealthy client who spared no expense on its presentation for hanging alongside his collection of other fine paintings in a grand house.
