“Harvesting Scene with Figures and Small Hamlet”
Watercolour, indistinctly signed lower right.
12” x 20”
This is a delightful, pretty picture, which has been very finely drawn, painted and composed. This romantic, rural image of a sun-drenched afternoon during harvesting time, is almost certainly somewhere in rural England. The church and cottages in the middle background might hold a clue to the location of this scene. The style of corn stooks in the foreground places this landscape at some time around 1870-1890.
The faint signature shows only a “B” and an ”S” to the lower right corner and a small mark one inch to the right of these letters suggesting a surname of around seven to eight characters.
