Stanley Orchart was born in Walthamstow, North London.
He studied art at Leeds School of Art, but worked for much of his life in the oil industry having also studied engineering. He lived for some time at Great Staughton in Cambridgeshire, spending much of his time in the home counties of Bedfordshire and East Anglia.

He became highly sought after for commissions after Her Majesty the Queen Mother became a major patron of his work. He exhibited at 35 solo exhibitions in Bedford, Norwich and London.

This picture is exquisitely restrained in its tones and colours and the composition delightful, being bold and finely drawn with no fuss, no over-painting and no attention to unnecessary detail.
