David Martin lived in Glasgow. He exhibited between 1887 and 1935, showing thirty-three works at the Glasgow Institute of Fine Arts, one at The Royal Institute of Watercolour Painters in London, six at The Royal Scottish Academy and four at The Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolour.

The fishing boats shown here at Tarbert next to Loch Fyne were a much-favoured subject for his preferred medium of watercolour.
