ROBERT ANDERSON (1842 - 1885)

ARTIST: Robert Anderson (1842 – 1885)
TITLE: “A Village Street with Figures”
MEDIUM: Watercolour on paper 12.1/2” x 19.1/4”
Signed lower left.
REF: KFA576 (SOLD)

Robert Anderson was primarily a coastal painter. He became an associate member of The Royal Scottish Academy in 1879

During his short artistic career, he showed four paintings at Agnews, one at The Dowdeswell Galleries, one at The Glasgow Institute of Fine Arts, one at The Royal Academy in London, forty-five at The Royal Scottish Academy and eighteen at The Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolours.
Records show that he lived in Edinburgh, so this picture is fairly likely to be a Scottish village street scene, possibly from a coastal town or village.
