JOHN DOYLE PPRWS. Watercolour (SOLD)

“The Rio San Barnaba, Venice” Watercolour

This is pure Venice, nicely capturing the shimmering light and cool shade between the tall buildings of this waterway. John Doyle was born in 1928. He is largely self-taught, but his career in painting began with some help and guidance from John Ward RA. They were in Venice together. John Ward said, “Paint that!” J.D. asked, “How the hell do I start?” and J.W. replied, “From the top downwards.” And the rest is history, starting with success at The Royal Academy. We began framing John Doyle’s work here at Kennetts Fine Art nearly a decade ago. This is one of a stack of watercolours which was being framed for a show. It was snapped up by this eager collector before it reached the exhibition venue.
