Parr flourished between around 1880 -1920, West-Country scenes being his speciality, which he depicted lovingly, in an unashamedly Romantic manner. The signed painting is also inscribed: “Shelley’s Cottage” to the reverse. This typically pretty, thatched cottage near the sea at Lynton in North Devon, is reputed to be where the poet Percy Shelley and Mary Shelley spent their first honeymoon night. The lighthouse is a well-known feature at Lynton and Lynmouth.
